NL West preview

  • San Francisco Giants
  • San Diego Padres
  • Los Angeles Dodgers
  • Colorado Rockies
  • Arizona Diamondbacks

Last year the NL West was the closest race, with three of the five teams a game way from making the post season. After leading the NL West division for most of the year, the San Diego Padres faltered the last week of the season and let the eventual World Series Champion San Francisco Giants win the division. With Mat Latos as their ace, the Padres will again be competitive. But they lost their biggest bat Adrian Gonzalez to the Boston Red Sox. The Pads will certainly miss Gonzo, but GM Jed Hoyer got some nice pieces in return, and the Pads could very well end up surprising their fans again. The knock on the Giants all last season was that they couldn’t hit. Well that didn’t seem to be an issue in their win over the Teas Rangers in the World Series, but we will see if they can keep it up this year.

The favorites to win the NL West have to be the Colorado Rockies, who have two of the best players in the NL ready to go. Between Troy Tulowitzki and Ubaldo Jimenez, the Rockies will be able to compete with the best teams in the league. As much as everyone wants to write-off the Los Angeles Dodgers because of their ownership issues, they have some talented on the roster. New manager Don Mattingly has been looking for a chance to manage a major league team for years, and now is his chance to show his prowess. And you can be sure that Los Angeles Dodgers tickets are going to be hot this year, especially if the Dodgers start winning. And finally the Arizona Diamondbacks are in the middle of rebuilding their team. Hey have a solid core and their players have shown they can work hard. Cheapbaseballtickets.net thinks the Diamondbacks have what it takes to compete for the NL West title, but they’ll have to get past the Rockies if they hope to be in the playoffs come October.
